This year the town of Hudson is celebrating its 150th year. Hudson Players Club a community theatre organisation is thrilled to be playing its part in supporting the town to achieve its yearlong special activities. Using the knowledge and experience gained over the previous 2 summers offering Shakespeare by the Lake at the beautiful Jack Layton Park amphitheatre the club plans to make this year’s Shakespeare production an extraordinary event that will be one of the highlights of this year.
Our 8 performances of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” directed by local artist Mary Vuorela, original music by Roy Vuorela, and costumes designed by visual and textile artist Tina Marais Struthers along with the extraordinary volunteering efforts of over 100 club members and supporters (30 of whom will be performing) was a stunning and magical show for audiences of all ages who came out to support the show.
“A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” William Shakespeare’s most popular comedy tells the story of the adventures of four young lovers and a group of amateur actors, their interactions with woodland fairies and a duke and duchess. Taking place in a mythical Athens and an enchanted forest, there is a handsome fairy king, a misguided parent, star-crossed lovers, a weaver who’s transformed into a half-donkey, wood sprites and elves. This work is widely performed around the world, and no wonder – it’s about the world’s most popular pastime, falling in love. But as Puck knows, falling in love can make fools of us all.
Want to know more about us? We invite you to read on and look forward to seeing you at our upcoming show promotion activities and performance.
As a community organisation we do not receive funding of any kind apart from our own voluntary efforts to secure funding via sponsorships and advertising recruitment from many local businesses.
